Speed Paintings!
Hello World! Welcome to my blog. It is great to finally get off of my lazy butt and start posting some real work for a change.
But first some boring background information about myself.
I graduated with a dual bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design and Interdisciplinary Engineering with a main focus in Mechanical Engineering. Currently working the exciting life as a lead engineer in the automotive field on my 10th year, I have been having this itch to explore my alternative interests and talents. Of course I have been scratching this itch for the last 4 years (on and off) trying to figure out what it is I want to accomplish.
Not really knowing…I decided to take the journey and explore my artistic abilities and see where it can lead me. So I started sketching, learning, and understanding the fundamentals and basics of design and illustration. Energized by the entertainment guru’s such as Scott Robertson, Sparth, Craig Mullins, and my Industrial Design colleagues at work, I decided to set forth my journey to continue to create, understand, inspire, and be inspired.
So from this point on I will start to post my work and explain the reasoning behind my creations and I only hope that you can spend just a few minutes to sit back, enjoy yourselves, and provide some constructive feedback.
So here we GO!!
Here are a couple of speed paintings from our trip to Niagara Falls about a month ago on the Canadian side. As we walked through the White Water Walk, I snapped a few pics and then painted them in photoshop. The first pic “white water” took approx. 30 min. The second took speed painting took about 2 hours. That shot was from our hotel room from the 18th floor. Gorgeous view I might add. Each piece is merely trying to capture the essence and energy of the moment.
This was my first attempt at painting a mountain…..ok…I… lied…I tried to do these mountains before but failed miserably. So I tried and tried again…and after a few attempts and references from others such as Mullens from www.cgpad.org, I think I finally got something l was somewhat satisfied with. As I perfect the technique I will try to add some more visual interest.
More to come and looking forward to your visit.

You certainly have made a good beginning. I look forward to more such pictures which will mean something to people, convey some meaningful message. Art shouldnt be only for the connoisseurs of Art. The layman always looks for relief from boredom of his routine of daily life and would welcome and appreciate any kind of meaningful art.
Good luck to you and looking forward to more such creations!

I am glad to see your talent being revealed to more of the world. Your ability to bring out the essence and emotions of your subjects is exceptional, and I hope to see many more works and be able to say one day “Oh yeah! I knew that guy when he was just getting started showing his art”.

Your drawings are BEAST (in teenage lingo it means AWESOME)! I really believe you show the capture (with your character drawings) the true essence of the character. And in the drawings with nature and the car/plane ones you capture the glow I could imagine from the lighting being there. You are truly an awesome artist and I think that you should try and find places where you can get a title as one. You could really do it because your drawings are truly artistic in a one-of-a kind way. Keep drawing more!!!!

Amazing paintings, Arv! The Niagara Falls pics look really life-like. Loved the color pallette and tone of the mountains. Looking at your work really made me want to get back in touch with my own little hobby which has been buried somewhere for the last 15 years.
